€21,000 RAISED FOR CF WEST

21,000 Euro Raised for CF West CFWest are delighted to team up again with the Challenge the Greenway Team to raise the much needed funds to improve facilities and services for people with cystic fibrosis (PWCF) in the West of Ireland. To date CFWest, with the generous help of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland (CFAI), Friends of CF, the general public who participate in events and those who generously sponsor them in such events as 1 in 1000, the Garda Cycle, Butcher’s Cycle, Western Peoples West of Ireland Mini Marathon and Challenge the Greenway have raised an amazing €840,000.00. The CFWest building project will cost in the region of €1,000,000.00. We are very close to our target now and hope that the people of Mayo and surrounding counties will support us in our efforts at reaching our target by the end of 2013 so PWCF will have the necessary facilities to improve their health care. This in turn will have a positive effect on their lives and life expectancy. For more information on CF, you can log onto the CFAI web site cfireland.ie, or for local CF information log onto cfwest.ie. If you would like to talk about any CF related issue please contact Patient Advocates Caroline Heffernan at cheffernan@cfwest.ie (087 9323 933) or Tomas Thompson at tthompson@cfireland.ie (087 9323 930).

WINNER OF EIRCOM SPIDER AWARD 2012

Eircom Spider Awards Winner 2012

L-R: Caroline Heffernan (CFWest), Des Bishop, Members of the CFAI Team

We are absolutely trilled to announce that Challenge the Greenway scooped the prestigious Spider Award at last night’s glitzy ceremony in Dublin’s Convention Centre. The judges felt the Challenge The Greenway website “demonstrated a cutting edge as it tackled a serious cause in a modern, intuitive and uplifting fashion. The site was both, stylish and current, technically well organised and easy to navigate, a worthy winner!” To have been shortlisted along such high profile nominees was an achievement in itself, however to have won on the night was simply amazing. Website Designer Sheena Oosten was unfortunately unable to attend the event on the night, however was more than happy for organiser Caroline Heffernan of CF West and members of the Cystic Association of Ireland to accept the award on her behalf. It was a throughly enjoyable event and we hope that this recognition goes a long way in helping to raise awarenss for Cystic Fibrosis and motivates even more people to get involved in next years challenge on March 23rd 2013. Watch Caroline in action below…(starts at 3:25 mins)

Now in their 17th year, the Eircom Spiders is an annual event which recognises and honours both Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online and in the digital realm. There are 18 award categories this year which recognise achievements across a variety of industries including Media, Education, Financial Services, Sports, Retail, Travel, Tourism and e-Business. With this being our first ever entry, we will be joining some high profile nominees in the Charitable & Non-Profit Organisations category including The Jack and Jill Foundation, Temple Street Children’s Hospital and Trócaire to name but a few. Having only been up and running for just under a year, we’re surprised, yet hugely proud to have been shortlisted alongside such well known and worthy causes. Winners will be announced at a black-tie ceremony, hosted by the fantastic Des Bishop in Dublin’s Convention Centre on November 1st. We look forward to a great night and have our fingers firmly crossed! Site designer Sheena Oosten says… “I’m delighted to be a member of the Challenge the Greenway team and to have played my part in terms of branding and design. It’s always lovely to have your work and efforts recognised, especially in such a prestigious manner and I hope this recognition helps to further promote the CF West fundraising event so it can continue to grow year upon year”. Sheena’s work has also been shortlisted in two other categories in this years Irish Web Awards which will be held on November 1st also. We wish her the best of luck! www.sheenaoosten.com
